(e)motions
This bodysuit is both an exploration of the capabilities of Shima Seiki knitting technology, as well as part of a larger suite of textile works that collectively tell the story of a imagined transcendentalist society of the future. This bodysuit is a speculative work that imagines what garments and textiles are worn for somatic rituals designed to free the body from its earthly constraints, allowing the soul of the wearer to move onto an immaterial consciousness. The spiritual, ethereal nature of the garment’s functioning is reflected structurally in the delicacy of the knitted lace that comprises the bodysuit. It is designed to both mask and reveal the wearer, allowing one to ground deeply into presence to focus on the (e)motions of a ritual practice.
